Green Guardians: ECO Clubs Inspire 2,000 Children to Act for the Earth

As part of the World Environment Day celebrations 2025, the ECO Clubs supported by BREADS in partnership with Don Bosco institutions, implemented targeted awareness and plantation campaigns across schools in Hosapete, Chitradurga, and Davanagere. This initiative involved more than 60 schools and reached over 2,000 children, promoting sustainability and environmental stewardship through student-led actions.

In Hosapete, students of Don Bosco ICSE School marched with saplings in hand, led by Sr. Laveena, who encouraged daily habits for a cleaner, greener future. Social activist Mr. Prabhakar from the Green Army Association inspired students to take responsibility for nurturing Nature.

Chitradurga celebrated with a blend of traditional and creative awareness strategies, including street plays, quizzes and art competitions on themes such as plastic pollution and tree conservation. At each school, students and teachers planted saplings and pledged to protect the earth.

Davanagere saw large scale student participation across government and Don Bosco schools. At Kaddirampura Government School, with support from the Forest and Horticulture departments, a community event was organised with SDMC members, teachers and local officials. Slogans and speeches echoed through the village as children planted saplings and spread the message of environmental responsibility.

Across all locations, children participated in drawing competitions, slogan writing and impromptu speeches to reinforce the day’s message. The interactive approach encouraged critical thinking and instilled a sense of ownership among students.

The World Environment Day campaign by the Educate to Cultivate Organically (ECO) Clubs reiterated the power of child-led community initiatives. By empowering schoolchildren with tools and opportunities to protect the environment, BREADS and its partner institutions are laying the groundwork for lasting change. These young champions now carry forward the mission of sustainability into their homes and communities, ensuring that the roots of environmental awareness run deep.
