Kerala is home to several tribal communities that find it difficult to meet their daily needs. To empower them, WELivE Wayanad, an initiative under the WELivE Project by BREADS Bangalore and Don Bosco Sulthan Bathery, decided to form a group of 20 women from these marginalised Paniya communities to start Soft Water Fish Farming as an Income Generation Program.
Initially, it was difficult to motivate the community members, but eventually, they became curious and enthusiastic about the possibilities of the project! Therefore, on 11th July 2021, the group members started (and completed) the construction of the fish tank with the help of the youth in the surrounding areas under the guidance of Fr Johnson Ponthempilly, Director, WELivE Wayanad; Mr. @Sabu Joseph, Project Coordinator, WELivE Wayanad and other members.
