Responding to the pressing needs of flood-affected communities, BREADS Bangalore, in collaboration with Bosconet and with the support of Nestlé India’s CSR initiative, distributed 5,000 essential food kits across Thrissur, Ernakulam and Kottayam districts in Kerala. This humanitarian initiative offered immediate relief to families who were adversely affected by the heavy rains and flooding experienced in various parts of the state.
Working through the Don Bosco Centres in Thrissur, Ernakulam and Kottayam, the food kit distribution was carefully planned and executed to ensure prompt and dignified support for the most affected families. Each kit was thoughtfully put together to address the basic needs of a family, including essential food items such as rice, pulses, cooking oil and spices.
The distribution process was made possible through the active participation of local leaders, municipal representatives and panchayat officials who collaborated closely with BREADS and the Don Bosco team. Volunteers from the local community also played an essential role in identifying the families in need and ensuring smooth, organised distribution at each location.
In Thrissur district, 2,000 kits were distributed across two key areas, reaching hundreds of families. In Ernakulam district, 1,000 kits were provided to affected communities, while in Kottayam district, 2,000 kits reached families spread across Kadaplamattom, Kottayam Municipality and Vijayapuram areas. In several locations, local government representatives and Nestlé India team members were present during the distribution, highlighting the collaborative spirit of this relief initiative. For families already grappling with the challenges of rebuilding their lives after the floods, this intervention offered not just sustenance, but also a message of care, hope and solidarity.
While Kerala has seen many community-driven relief efforts over the years, what made this initiative stand out was the spirit of partnership that brought together civil society organisations, corporate partners, religious institutions and local governance bodies for a shared humanitarian goal. By pooling together resources and ability, the initiative showed how coordinated action can make a meaningful impact on the lives of those in distress.
BREADS extends heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed to making this initiative a success, Bosconet for its partnership and coordination, Nestlé India for its generous support through CSR funding, the Don Bosco Centres and their dedicated teams, local civic authorities and most importantly, the community volunteers who ensured that every kit reached the families that needed them most. Through initiatives like these, BREADS continues its journey of compassion and service, always striving to be present wherever human dignity needs to be restored and lives rebuilt.
