Epilepsy Awareness Program

On 8 February 2025, Epilepsy Awareness Day is observed to shed light on the challenges faced by individuals living with epilepsy and to promote greater understanding about this neurological condition. BREADS-supported mobile clinic in Bidar and Davangere conducted awareness session and door to door  Albendazole distribution campaign  in the rural village of Noubad, Bidarn Davanagere, a health awareness programme was held in Sagalagatte village to raise awareness about epilepsy and to emphasise the importance of deworming for adults as a preventive measure against health issues caused by parasites.

In Bidar, about 1 in 100 people globally have epilepsy, making it one of the most common neurological conditions (WHO)  In India alone, around 12 million people are living with epilepsy, as per data from the Indian Epilepsy Association.

s part of the ongoing efforts to raise awareness about epilepsy and improve public health, an Albendazole distribution programme was conducted between 8-20 February in the high-risk areas of Noubad, targeting the reduction of parasitic infections. The initiative aimed to tackle the significant health burden caused by intestinal worms and neurocysticercosis, a preventable cause of epilepsy. The distribution of Albendazole was carried out under the guidance of qualified medical professionals, ensuring safe administration and appropriate dosage for all age groups, with particular attention to vulnerable populations such as children and pregnant women. Additionally, to promote long-term health benefits, community members were educated on proper hygiene practices, sanitation, and preventive measures to avoid infections.
