On 15 September 2024, in celebration of the International Day of Democracy, significant events took place in the districts of Bidar, Kalaburagi, Davanagere, and Yadagiri. One of the highlights was the formation of a human chain organised by the local Don Bosco partners led by Directors and staff with enthusiastic volunteers. Democracy is the bedrock upon which the Don Bosco institutions and other NGOs work for the empowerment of the marginalised children, youth, and communities. Therefore, in association with the Karnataka government, the Don Bosco partners aimed to educate their local communities on the significance of democracy, urging individuals to exercise their rights and responsibilities as informed citizens.
Hundreds of people gathered in each of the districts to read the Preamble of the Indian Constitution. This powerful act symbolised their commitment to democratic values and served to raise awareness about the importance of civic engagement. Participants engaged in discussions about the role of citizens in a thriving democracy, fostering a spirit of unity and awareness.
These activities across the districts served not only to commemorate and strengthen democracy but also to inspire active participation in the democratic process, underscoring the importance of civic engagement in building an equitable society.
