ECO Clubs
The Educate to Cultivate Organically (ECO) Clubs are an initiative by BREADS and its Don
Bosco partners to promote environmental education and organic farming among government
schoolchildren. Implemented across 60 schools in three districts of Karnataka—Vijayanagara,
Davanagere and Chitradurga—the initiative involves more than 2,000 students. Through ECO
Clubs, the students learn to create school gardens and cultivate vegetables organically, often
being able to use them for their mid-day meals.
The students also take part in awareness programmes and campaigns on topics like tree planting,
waste management, and sustainable agriculture. ECO clubs not only teach children about
protecting the environment but also help them practise healthy and sustainable living in their
daily lives.
In short, ECO Clubs educate children to cultivate organically while creating awareness about the
environment and empowering students to become responsible caretakers of their environments.
