On 16 November 2020, under the auspices of the Fishermen Community Development Programme (FCDP) and the Theeradesha Mahila Society (TMS), the electric autorickshaw training for women was inaugurated. Under the COVID 19 pandemic circumstances the first batch consists of thirty five women. Shri. Rajeev, Regional Transport Officer, Kollam, inaugurated the programme in FCDP hall by lighting a lamp. The venture aims to introduce new employment opportunities for coastal women and thereby ensure their financial security said the FCDP Chairperson, while welcoming the gathering. Shri. Rajeev, during his inaugural address said that the achievements of women in various fields of work are commendable and that obtaining electric auto licenses can reduce air pollution and achieve gender equality. Fr. Joby Sebastian- FCDP Director presided over the ceremony. After the formal inauguration, Shri. Rajeev flagged off the on-road driving classes. Sr. Mary Karuvelil- TMS Assistant Director; Shri. Vinod – Srikala Driving School, Ashram; Shri. Anoop Raj -Project Coordinator and others also addressed the gathering.
