BREADS’ latest initiative—Drug Rehabilitation Education And Mentoring (DREAM) programme aims to prevent substance use among school and college students through counselling and deaddiction services in 10 districts of Kerala. An induction and training for DREAM staff was organised from 18-20 November 2021 at Don Bosco Vaduthala, Ernakulam.
Training sessions on various topics were conducted for the staff including: ‘Addictions among Children and Youth in Kerala’ by Adv. Charly Paul, ‘Psychology and Biology of Addictions’, as well as ‘Addiction counselling’ by Mr. Francis Moothedan. Twenty-nine staff from 10 districts of Kerala were part of the training programme.
The training sought to increase clarity about addiction-related issues among the staff, while also planning for the initial phase of the DREAM programme. The training programme helped team bonding as well as organisational bonding among all the participants while also increasing their awareness, sensitivity, and knowledge about substance abuse and DREAM as an intervention.
