DB PyaR in the Kalaburagi Child Labour Rescue Team

As part of the nationwide rescue and rehabilitation campaign under the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986, a coordinated inspection and awareness drive was conducted in Kalaburagi city on 8 August 2025. Directed by the District Magistrate and the Labour Commissioner, the campaign brought together multiple stakeholders including CHILDLINE, the Police, Don Bosco PYaR, Margadarshi and other non-governmental organisations.

The initiative aimed at rescuing child labourers as well as sensitising employers and the general public about the illegality and harmful impact of child and adolescent labour. As part of the campaign, several commercial establishments such as hotels, garages and bakery shops were inspected. Pamphlets and posters were distributed and displayed prominently to educate the community on the provisions of the law and the importance of safeguarding children’s rights. Employers were informed about the strict prohibition of employing children below the age of 18 years, and the legal consequences of non-compliance. The public was also urged to report cases of child labour to the relevant authorities to ensure timely intervention.

During the operation, five child labourers were identified and immediately removed from the hazardous work environment and entrusted to the District Child Welfare Committee (CWC), which will ensure that each child receives appropriate rehabilitation, counselling and support to reintegrate into a safe and nurturing environment, with access to education and basic needs.

While Don Bosco Gulbarga has always been at the forefront in the battle against child labour, this  campaign demonstrated the strength of collaborative action among government departments, law enforcement, and civil society organisations in Kalaburagi. It underlined our collective responsibility to protect children from exploitation and to create an environment where they can grow, learn, and thrive, free from the burden of labour.
