On 15 February 2023, CHITHRA Don Bosco in collaboration with the district administration, zilla panchayat, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), and government departments—Women and Child Development (DWCD), Education, Labour, and Police—organised a district-level workshop to disseminate the achievements and impact of the Child Rights Education and Action Movement (CREAM) in Chitradurga district.
The CREAM programme of BREADS, since 2012, has been promoting and protecting the rights of children as per the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) in many districts of Karnataka. As the CREAM programme comes to a conclusion in Chitradurga, the workshop aimed to encourage the government stakeholders to continue the best practices of the programme such as child rights education in schools, training for teachers, Child Rights Clubs, Child Protection Committee, and effective functioning of Makkala Grama Sabhas in the Gram Panchayats to uphold the rights of children.
The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Girish (Honorable Civil Judge and Member Secretary of DLSA). Fr. Rubin Mathew (Executive Director, BREADS) released a booklet on the activities and outreach of CREAM Chitradurga, handing out copies to Mr. Girish and the other dignitaries. Representatives of the Chitradurga administration who spoke on the occasion, were Ms. Bharati R Bankar (Deputy Director, DWCD), Mr. R Prabhakar (Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee), Mr. R. Ranganath (District Health Officer), Mr. Yashodara CN (District Labour Officer), and Mr. Kalikrishna (Inspector of Police). Fr. Saji George (Rector, Don Bosco Chitradurga) was also present.
The dignitaries and officials were honored with mementos in recognition of their contributions to promote child rights in the district.
