CHITHRA Don Bosco joined forces with the Government of Karnataka against COVID 19 in Chitradurga district

On 30 March 2020, CHITHRA Don Bosco was invited to a special consultation with the Tahsildar of Chitradurga, Mr. Venkatesh and the Coordinator of the Child Welfare Committee, Mr. Prabhakar, at the Tahsildar’s office. In the meeting it was unanimously decided that the food and grocery distribution would be coordinated by the office of the Tahasildar in order to avoid duplication and misuse. The two-hour meeting involved representation from various departments:  the CDPO represented by Mr. Chandrappa, Labour department represented by Mrs. Vinodha and Mr. Satheesh, Health Inspector Mr. Rajanna, Social Welfare department represented by Mr. Sharanappa, Social Welfare officer Mr. Paramesharappa and Traffic Police Inspector Ms. Revathy.

The team from CHITHRA Don Bosco including Fr. Lawrence SDB, Mr. Philip, and Mr. Manjunath were given special passes to go around and assess the situation to do the needful. The team then delivered adequate supplies of provisions to the community kitchen in the Vinayaka Chowtry, where government personnel are cooking food for over 1000 people stranded and locked down in the city. The CHITHRA team was given the assurance that all possible measures would be taken to ensure that everyone has sufficient food and that no one starves in the city. CHITHRA with the assured support of BREADS Bangalore is hoping to extend its services to the villages where we need to assess the situation and then decide upon appropriate action.
