Don BOsco Yadagiri organised one week children’s camp for 100 children from 11 – 15 November 2016 at the occasion of children’s day. The children’s day was observed and celebrated during the camp with an intention of empowering children with child rights. The children were from the tuition centers and Child Rights Club formed in different schools as a part of CREAM Programme of BREADS. The main guests and resource persons present for the programme other than CREAM staff were Fr. Yesudas, Fr. Joshi, B. Ed college principal, Mr. Kishor, CEO, Mr. Jada, DD; Mr.Raghuveer Sigh, Takur PD ; Mr. Govind, CWC Member. All 5 days children were given different exposure; there were sessions, meetings, rally and activities based on child rights and child rights issues. The camp also included sessions on child protection mechanisms like Childline, SJPU, Missing child Bureau and leadership qualities, importance of children’s Grama Sabha, procedure to approach and write memorandum to the concerned officials. Yoga and Karate practice was also a part of the programme which helped the holistic development of the children. Different methods like discussions, drawing, storytelling, filming and cultural activities were used to impart knowledge to children. A tour to Mini Vidhana Soudha was organised to make children familiar with the government offices and to keep them aware of whom to contact for their needs. On Children’s day – 14 November 2016 – there were 600 children present for a rally for the protection of child rights, followed by cultural programmes and prize distribution. Finally child rights club network for Yadagiri district was formed; the leaders and members were selected. The camp came to an end with a small evaluation of the programme by the children, they were very happy and ready to fight for their rights.
