Child Rights Club Leaders of Bellary on AIR

Child Rights Education and Action Movement (CREAM) programme at Don Bosco Hospet facilitated 9 Child Rights Club (CRC) leaders from 5 taluks of Bellary districts to go on-air at All India Radio, Hospet.  Children did the programme as a part of a Kannada series called ‘Nagu Kandha’ which is aired on every Sunday at 12 noon from Akashvani radio station. The opportunity to take part in the programme was an outcome of children’s empowerment through CREAM programme at Bellary. The CRC leaders were accompanied by Mr. Prakash, CREAM coordinator and other staff to the AIR studio at Bellary on 21st October 2016 for recording the programme.

This particular segment of ‘Nagu Kandha’ (laugh, you child) was on empowerment of children and their participation in attaining child rights. The CRC leaders had opportunity to share their experience with CREAM programme. Children said that

Trainings on child rights by DB CREAM Hospete, has given us awareness on rights which was unknown to us. This has motivated us to acquire our denied rights.

The child protection mechanisms in our state and district are nothing new to us now. We avail the services when it is necessary to protect our rights as well as other children’s rights.

We have learnt leadership skills, to take initiative to participate in child related programmes and speak to authorities & public without fear through child rights training, residential camps and many other programmes, .

Now we know how to conduct the CRC meetings in our school systematically and how to write memorandum to BEO, Grama Panchyat PDO, Head Master, PSI etc.

We ourselves were personally involved in bringing back  15 children to school and stopped 4 child marriages in our villages.

Children enjoyed and were very happy to be part of the radio programme at Akashvani Hosapete.
