Capacity Building for Women on Gender Equality at Hospet

Don Bosco Hospet organized a 2 days training programme – capacity building for women on gender equality – on 25th and 26th of April 2016. The programme was organized in a Mosque premises at Mattapather onni, 21st ward, Hospet with the support of people from respective community. The participants were 40 women, SHG members from 4 different villages. These women were gathered after many awareness programme conducted in their villages, they actively responded to the concept of gender equality. The women had their own reasons to fight for women empowerment and gender equality. Mr. Shreedar Nayadu – Ward Councilor; Fr. Lawrence – Director, Don Bosco Hospet; Sr. Seema – Coordinator, Women Empowerment programme, were present for the inauguration and they all spoke about women empowerment and gender equality. Mrs. Sowbhagya, retired lecturer and Gnana Vignana Samithi Member, Social activist; Mrs. Usharani, Science lecturer from Kakubalu College, Science Association member and social activist were the two resource person who capacitated the women on gender equality. The topics dealt during the train was sensitizing about gender equality, women rights, patriarchal system, the resource person also spoke about religious superstition which is great tool used to suppress women in their society, she also demonstrated a few to unveil the reality of it. Video clips, life examples, songs for the cause, role plays pertaining to gender equality were other few methods used to capacitate women.
