A blood donation camp was organised on 26 January 2026 in Halekalu village to promote voluntary blood donation and timely support for patients in need of blood and platelets. The camp was organised by the mobile clinic team of Don Bosco Davanagere in collaboration with the Halekalu Primary Health Centre and Chigateri General Hospital, Davanagere.
The camp was systematically organised with registration and counselling, medical examination, blood grouping, haemoglobin testing and blood collection. Counsellors interacted with donors to understand their medical history while doctors ensured safe and ethical collection practices. Local residents, especially youth volunteers participated actively. Thirty-eight donors registered for blood donation. After a medical screening, which included blood pressure, weight, haemoglobin and general health checks, 26 units of blood were successfully collected. Twelve volunteers were advised not to donate due to health reasons.
The Halekalu residents were educated about the importance of blood donation for emergency care surgeries, caesarean deliveries and the treatment of patients with dengue, thalassaemia, anaemia and pregnancy-related complications where blood and platelets are critical. Community members were sensitised to the need for regular voluntary blood donation to save lives, one unit at a time.
The response from the village was positive and encouraging. Youth volunteers played an active role in organising the camp and expressed their willingness to support similar programmes in the future. Many villagers suggested conducting blood donation camps every six months and appreciated the ongoing health initiatives supported by BREADS Bangalore including the mobile clinic services in Davanagere. Key support for the camp was provided by Dr Mallikarjun from Halekalu Primary Health Centre and Dr Karthik from Chigateri General Hospital Davanagere along with local Panchayat representatives and youth leaders.
The camp was one of the activities of the BREADS-supported Mobile Clinics that offer community-based health programmes to strengthen access to essential health information and services.
