The second session of the Advanced Mushroom Cultivation Training (Phase I) under the AWAKE initiative was held on 6 December 2025 at Don Bosco Veedu. Supported by BREADS Bangalore, the training brought together 28 women who are working towards building sustainable livelihood opportunities through mushroom cultivation.
The session was facilitated by Fr Sojan SDB, who guided participants through advanced techniques in mushroom farming. The training focused on practical methods, maintaining quality, and understanding the commercial possibilities of mushroom production. Participants also shared feedback from the first phase of the programme, offering reflections on their learning and early experiences in applying the techniques at home. A highlight of the day was the distribution of mushroom beds and spawn to each participant, ensuring that the women can begin cultivation immediately, reinforcing the skills gained during the training.
BREADS’ Applied Women Advancement & Knowledge Enhancement (AWAKE) initiative in partnership with Don Bosco Veedu, focuses on the empowerment of youth and women through skill training and awareness in MSK Nagar, Thiruvananthapuram. The training on mushroom cultivation equips women with the knowledge and confidence to start small-scale enterprises that can contribute to a stable income for their families, moving them closer to establishing independent and sustainable livelihoods.
