Nadham Coconut Oil, another Income Generating Program facilitated by WELivE Alappuzha, under the WELivE Project by BREADS Bangalore and Don Bosco Alappuzha, was inaugurated today (August 17, 2021) by Smt JalajaranI M.T, Sub Judge & Secretary, DLSA Alappuzha!
The idea of starting the Coconut Oil Mill was proposed by Gracy Shaji, Mary CJ, Thressiyamma Antony, and Rosamma Michael (members of the SHG) for a sustainable livelihood, who were eventually successful in their undertaking. This is also the first SHG (within Alappuzha district) whose initiatives have led them to avail themselves of the Prime Minister Employment Generation programme (PMEGP) loan!
Besides oil extraction from coconuts and marketing those products, the group ensures full utilisation of the remnants from the extraction to make things like sweets, squashes, and other yummy edibles! Thus, the oil mill is a result of the entrepreneurial mindset and potential of the SHG women, the different trainings and workshops conducted to enhance their skills, coupled with support from the WELivE Team.
