The unprecedented spread of COVID 19 is driving the need for more protective masks to reduce the chances of infection and spread of the virus. As part of its humanitarian assistance, BREADS handed over 2000 face masks to Mr. Venkatesh IAS, District Commissioner of Mandya district, Karnataka on 5 August 2020. The protective masks are being distributed among the Accredited Social Health Activists, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) workers, and migrant workers from Uttarakhand. Mr. Rajmurthy, Deputy Director, Department of Women and Child Development (DWCD) coordinated the distribution of masks in the district. The CEO of Zilla Panchayat, Mandya, Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) officials were also part of the distribution process.
BREADS commissions the production of these masks from women’s self-help groups in Bangalore, Chitradurga, Ballari, Bidar districts in Karnataka, and Kollam district in Kerala to meet the raising demand for protective face masks. BREADS thanks Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA) and Bhim Integrated Rural Development Society (BIRDS) for the coordinated efforts to combat the spread the COVID 19 pandemic.
