It’s time for Nature

Since 1974, World Environment Day is celebrated every June 5 to focus on pressing environmental issues. This year, while the world still battles the COVID 19 pandemic, Nature is reclaiming its space and healing itself. The theme for 2020— Celebrating Biodiversity and the tagline “It’s time for Nature”—essentially encourages us to think about how we should treat Nature by celebrating its biodiversity. Over the years due to extensive pollution, the quality of air, water and soil has been alarmingly affected. The staff of Fishermen Community Development Programme (FCDP) meaningfully celebrated World Environment Day on 5 June 2020 by planting a mango sapling at its Vishappinu Vida centre in Mundakkal, Kollam, as a powerful gesture of strengthening our relationship with Nature and our ecosystem. Mr Douglas Victor, member of the Visappinu Vida Executive Committee planted the sapling in the presence of Fr. Joby Sebastian SDB, Director of FCDP & TMS, Sr. Cecily Paul, Asst. Director TMS, and the staff of FCDP, TMS and Vishappinu Vida. The team planted ornamental plants in the courtyard to celebrate biodiversity and to promote a system of  nurturing life on earth. To mark the joyous occasion, a new project “Women empowerment through livelihood and entrepreneurship “was inaugurated. This BREADS Bangalore and FCDP collaboration aims to provide sustainable livelihood to women through promoting organic farming and kitchen gardens in Kollam district.
