Don Bosco Hospet celebrated International Women’s day on 1 March & 5 March 2020 with the women from the self-help group Taruni Mahilaya Abhivriddhi Samathi. The theme for the celebrations was #EachforEqual. On 1 March 2020, cultural competitions were organised for the women from different federations to showcase their talents in group dances, songs, speeches etc. More than 450 women attended the programme that was inaugurated by Fr. Lawrence, Principal, Don Bosco School, Chitradurga. The other dignitaries present were Fr. Jude Anand – Rector, Don Bosco Hospet, Fr. Siju – Director, Social Action Center, Hospet, Ms. Caroline – Vice Chairman, District Minority Ballari, Ms. Chennamma- Supervisor, WCD Department and Ms. Bhagyalakshmi – Principal, Theosophical College, Hospet. Along with the cultural programmes and rangoli competitions, games and entertainment were also organised for the women.
On 5 March, the women organised several events to commemorate the day and as a mark of respect to women in society. A rally of 500+ women was organised from the Muncipality, ending at Don Bosco Hospet with a felicitation and cultural programme. The rally was inaugurated by Mr. B.S Anand Singh – Minister of Vijayanagara constituency.
The chief guests for the event were Mr. Chand Pasha – District Child Protection Officer, Ballari; Mr. Ameresh – Child Development Project Officer, Hospet; Ms. Sunitha – Assistant Sub-Inspector, Hospet; Ms. Bhagyalakshmi; Fr. Jude Anand; Fr. Siju; Sr. Celine Rose – Rural Girls Hostel, Ms. Hanumanthamma- President of Taruni SHG and Ms. Kamalamma -Vice President, Taruni SHG. In addition to the felicitations and speeches, the women also presented several cultural items that added colour to the programme. Around 850 women participated in this programme.
