A new Educate to Cultivate Organic (ECO) club was formed by CHITHRA Don Bosco, Chitradurga on 25 January 2020 in Rural High School, Kondlahalli, Molkalmuru taluk. The club formation was led by Mr. Arun Kumar from CHITHRA, with the support of the enthusiastic teachers, students and community. The formation process was a mixture of theory and interesting practical activities in the form of land preparation and planting of seeds and seedlings on a specially-prepared plot. As an initial step, the students and teachers were oriented about the ECO project which aims at engaging students in organic farming, growing nutritious vegetables and fruits for mid-day meals in the school and creating awareness on environmental protection and sustainable farming among the village community. After the orientation, the club members numbering about 50 students were all set to prepare the field along with Mr. Thippeswamy, Headmaster of the school, Mr. Lathif, Headmaster, Durga High School, Molkalmuru, teachers–Mr. H. B. Nagaraj, Mr. Shankarappa, Mr. Nagesh, Mr. Mallesh and Mr. Shivu. The members of the club actively took part in the whole process and are happy to spend their after-school hours to nurture and care for their own school garden. CHITHRA is preparing to form ECO clubs in 25 schools over 5 taluks in the district namely, Chitradurga, Challakere, Hiriyur, Molakalmuru and Holalkere.
