The children and staff of BOSCO Nilaya observed the Day of the Poor on 28 September 2019 along the street dwellers near KR Market. With the goodwill and support of Mr. Vimal Jain of Mahalakshimi Jewellers and Ms. Brindha, tuition teacher; food packets were distributed to sixty vulnerable people from the streets. The children identified the street dwellers in the vicinity of KR Market and Jolly Mohalla and invited them to BOSCO Nilaya for an interaction and some television entertainment. Mr. Waseem, tuition teacher provided a short orientation on the importance of sharing and caring. The street dwellers were guided to approach BOSCO Nilaya for any assistance and later, food packets were distributed by the children and staff. With the support of generous donors, BOSCO Nilaya plans to continue this initiative of distributing food packets to the street dwellers of KR Market and Jolly Mohalla, every Saturday. Meanwhile, the process to rehabilitate these street dwellers to safe shelter homes is in progress. The hope is to provide access to better care and medical assistance, which would also improve their standards of living and provide dignity to these forgotten lives.
