Don Bosco Hospet conducted two day training for the youth on 4th and 5th of August 2017 on gender equality and rights of women. Ms.Shivaleela, Member, Child Welfare Committee Bellary was the resource person and facilitated the sessions on both days. Gender equality is one of the sustainable development goals of the United Nations. According to UN gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world. A sustainable world is created only when the women and girls have the access to education, work, better health care, participation in public administration etc. Ms.Shivaleela further elaborated the rights of women, namely- right to live, right to property, rights against domestic violence, reproductive rights, and rights to alimony etc. The participants rightly utilized the occasion to know more about registering complaint in the police station regarding any sort of violence or harassment, the service provided by the free legal aid cell, filing of First Information Report (FIR), obtaining the birth and death certificates. The participants discussed and debated on the difference between sex and gender, different roles and responsibilities of men and women in the society and gender equality at work place. The training for gender equality can transform and change the attitudes and behaviours individuals in creating an equal and sustainable world.
