Don Bosco Makkalalaya in Mysuru, along with some of its students, got off to a great start in 2024! On 5 January, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, the state coordinating body of the Karnataka Open School (KOS), appreciated DB Makkalalaya as the KOS Centre which facilitated the highest marks in the KOS SSLC exams in the state of Karnataka.
Mrs Roopa, a student of the DB Makkalalaya Open School programme, scored the highest marks in Karnataka with a score of 85.15% in the SSLC examination. This is no small achievement as these students have to overcome various challenges, such as long gaps in their studies, personal and family difficulties, difficulty in maintaining motivation etc. Hearty congratulations to Mrs Roopa and best wishes for her future! The awards are most deserved!
Over the past few years, BREADS has supported the Open School programme of Don Bosco Makkalalaya, which facilitates and prepares school and college dropouts to reappear for their exams. These exams are the first major hurdle for these students to clear, after which, they can chart different courses for themselves.
For the 2022-23 KOS SSLC exams, Don Bosco Makkalalaya prepared 43 students, of whom 21 students actually wrote the exams; eight of them passed and thirteen failed. Six students continue their preparations, while the others submitted to the various personal and academic challenges they faced.
In the face of such odds, Don Bosco Makkalalaya team and Mrs Roopa must be commended for their perseverance and commitment to success. That too, such a spectacular success! Best wishes to the DB Makkalalaya team as they help more students script new lives!
