BREADS Bangalore and its Don Bosco partners observed Human Rights Day on 10 December 2025 through various events. The celebrations reiterated for children and local communities that human rights are fundamental to their daily existence; therefore, the need for their awareness and voice to uphold these vital rights—to dignity, equality, physical and mental health, education, etc.
In Kalaburagi, Don Bosco PyaR participated in the Human Rights Day celebration organised by the district administration in the District Commissioner’s auditorium, attended by over 200 officials and civil society organisations. These included district-level office bearers from various departments—Police, Education, Health, Labour, Women & Child, Child Protection, CHILDLINE, Social Welfare, Backward Classes & Minority Welfare—as well as various organisations working for the protection of human rights. Addressing the assembly tasked with the responsibility of promoting human rights in society, the District Commissioner emphasised that human dignity must be upheld and violation of human rights must be prevented. Duties should be carried out without any form of discrimination. Don Bosco PyaR has often been in the forefront of upholding the human rights of exploited and oppressed children in partnership with the local administration.
At Garoor village in Kalaburagi, the Don Bosco Mobile Clinic organised an awareness session for 50 children along with their teachers and parents. The session highlighted the right to education, healthcare, equality and a clean environment. Seasonal health awareness on winter care was provided, followed by a general health check-up and free distribution of essential medicines. Children participated actively and expressed a genuine interest in understanding their rights and wellbeing. In Sikandarpur, Bidar, Don Bosco Bidar organised a similar programme at the Government Higher Primary School (GHPS) for 100 children.
In Davanagere, the Don Bosco team, together with the Railway Protection Force and Karnataka Railway Police, led a public awareness initiative at the railway station. Through a human chain, leaflet distribution and community interaction, over 250 people were sensitised about human rights and the need to uphold equality and compassion in daily life. The programme encouraged individuals to reflect on the value of human dignity and to contribute to a society where every person feels safe and respected.
In Devadurga, the Don Bosco Social Service Society marked the day at GHPS Kothigudda with the participation of 74 children, teachers and Gram Panchayat members. The programme emphasised dignity, non-discrimination and the importance of creating safe spaces for every child, reinforcing the role of communities in safeguarding rights.
Across all centres, the Human Rights Day celebrations created meaningful learning experiences for children and community members, strengthening their understanding of human rights, and encouraging collective action for safer, more inclusive communities.
