Vishappinu Vida (Goodbye Hunger) is an inspiring mission to eliminate hunger in the Kollam coastal belt in Kerala, championed by Don Bosco Pallithottam, the Fishermen Community Development Programme (FCDP) and Theeradesa Mahila Society. Started nine years ago by Fr. Joby Sebastian SDB, this initiative has grown into a symbol of compassion and community-driven care.
Vishappinu Vida ensures that over 150 vulnerable families including the elderly, the sick, abandoned children and struggling households receive freshly prepared meals every day. From Eravipuram to Thankassery, potichor (packed meals) reach homes by midday, ensuring that no one goes to bed hungry. The meals are prepared daily in a community kitchen managed by local women, supported and coordinated by Don Bosco Pallithottam. The initiative is sustained by generous local contributions—families and sponsors who donate food, firewood, or financial support—often marking birthdays, anniversaries, or memorials through acts of sharing. Volunteers, such as Selvarani, who travels over 35 km daily to deliver the food, embody the spirit of solidarity that drives this programme. Beyond addressing hunger, the programme restores dignity, fosters inclusion and strengthens the social fabric of the coastal community. World Food Day 2025 (October 16) calls for global collaboration in creating a peaceful, sustainable, prosperous, and food-secure future. By working together, across governments, organisations, sectors, and communities, we can ensure that everyone has access to a healthy diet, living in harmony with the planet. Vishappinu Vida shows us the way. BREADS is proud to associate with this mission and heartily congratulates the team behind this crucial intervention
