BREADS and Don Bosco Gulbarga, in collaboration with the District Child Protection Unit (DCPO), organised a consultation under the Child Safety Net (CSN) programme on 23 September 2025 at the Government Girls’ Home, Kalaburagi.
Jointly organised with the Directorate of Child Protection, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Child Helpline-1098 and Don Bosco Gulbarga, the meeting aimed to strengthen coordination among government departments and NGOs for effective child protection.
District Labour Officer Sharanappa Halimani reported that over 900 raids were conducted across Kalaburagi in 2024–25, rescuing 47 children. He also pointed out that stronger police support is needed after the rescue. DLSA Member/Secretary Srinivasa Navale stressed that children’s best interests must remain central in all operations under the Juvenile Justice Act, highlighting the need for sensitivity in law enforcement and pointing out lapses in handling cases of child abuse. DCPO Manjula V. Patil, underlined the importance of government–NGO collaboration, comparing it to railway tracks essential for safe child protection operations. Other key participants included CWC President Vishwaradhya K. Ijeri, WCD Officer Shivasharanappa and Don Bosco Gulbarga Director, Fr. Kuriakose.
The consultation provided a common platform for officials, child protection bodies and NGOs to share challenges and strategies, leading to stronger collaboration for prompt interventions. By reinforcing the role of each stakeholder, improved coordination is expected in child rescue, rehabilitation and reintegration efforts across Kalaburagi district.
