The Dussehra Camp 2024, organised by BOSCO, was a vibrant and impactful initiative that engaged a total of 721 children across eight different centres in Bangalore. The camps were held from 3-19 October at various BOSCO facilities, including Bosco Mane, Bosco Vikas, Bosco Nilaya, Bosco Yuvakendra, Bosco Rainbow Home, BOSCO Vatsalya Bhavan and supplementary education centres run by the Child Safety Net and Adjacent Railway Station programmes as well as in Gandhinagar. The camp reached children from diverse backgrounds, offering them an opportunity to engage in a wide range of educational, recreational, and cultural activities. These camps were designed to cater to different age groups and focused on enhancing creativity, physical fitness, social responsibility, and personal development.
The camps primarily focussed on personal growth, skill development, family values, and community building. Activities centred around art, music, drama, team-building exercises, and life skills. Themes such as “Family is Where I Belong” were discussed, helping children reflect on their family dynamics and the importance of social connections. Special programmes included team performances, sports competitions, and a meditation session, which fostered mindfulness and emotional well-being. In addition, a unique programme at BOSCO Vatsalya Bhavan introduced children to social responsibility through a visit to a home for the elderly and Aari embroidery sessions, promoting empathy and creative skills. Other activities such as “Trash to Treasure” emphasised environmental awareness by encouraging children to repurpose waste materials.
The impact of the Dussehra Camp was profound, as it not only provided children with a platform for creative expression and physical activity but also instilled important values such as teamwork, discipline, and social responsibility. The camp’s hands-on approach allowed children to enhance their problem-solving skills, develop leadership qualities, and build lasting friendships. Additionally, the exposure to different art forms, cultural expressions, and life skills contributed to their holistic development. By participating in a variety of activities, children gained confidence, expanded their horizons, and made meaningful memories. Overall, the Dussehra Camp served as an empowering experience for all involved, fostering both personal growth and community spirit.
