Gender Equality Training for Officials at Hospet

The women empowerment team of Don Bosco Hospet had organized one day training programme for the Government personnel, lawyers and police on gender equality and women empowerment on 24th May 2016. The training was inaugurated by Mr. Baisaba PSI, Town police station in the presence of Mrs. Chennama, CDPO; Mrs. Basanthi, Taruni President; Mrs. Sagaya Shanthi, Visthar Banglore and Fr. Lawrence, Director DB Hospet.

Fr. Lawrence sdb, welcomed the gathering and gave an introduction on how gender equality is important for the betterment of the society, when people start to respect men and women equally the society changes itself. He also spoke about the importance of the officials being trained on gender equality so we respect one and all who comes to our office and treat them equally.

Mrs. Sagaya Shanthi, Visthar, Banglore started the training with a brief introduction on the gender equality and women empowerment training. “Gender inequality/discrimination” in violence against women, legal aspects, reasons and consequences and effective strategies for prevention and protection were the topics dealt during the training. The first step was to sensitize the officials on gender and analyze the difference between sex and gender. Violation of rights due to gender discrimination and laws concerning and protecting women were the other major topics during the training. The resource person used different methods like group activities, discussions, and documentary to propagate the concept of gender equality.

The participants expressed that the training methods were different from usual lecture, which made it interesting and easy to understand. The training came to an end with experience sharing of the participants and way forward.
