On 7th June 2018 a session on Foster Care programme was facilitated by Foster Care Bosco Bangalore during the review meeting cum training for the Project Directors and staff of CREAM project from ten districts of Karnataka State at Don Bosco Provincial House, Bangalore. Mr. Shivamallu, Coordinator, BOSCO Foster Care started the session by explaining the meaning of Foster Care, reasons for implementing Foster Care as an alternative family care for the children and the basic understanding of the project.
Ms. Akshitha, Social Mobiliser, Foster Care, explained the child rights, foster care concept, types of foster care, selection criteria of parents and children, rights of children in foster family, responsibilities of foster parents, different levels of awareness programs, case study file of parents and children, placement and follow up of children. Meanwhile, awareness materials on Foster Care were distributed to the participants. The training was the initial platform to expand the Foster Care programme to ten districts of Karnataka state in collaboration with the Don Bosco centers for a wider scope and reach out. The documentation process, the legal procedures and the difference between foster care and adoption were explained very specifically. The concept of Foster Care is included as one of the themes for the trainings under the CREAM project (Child Rights Education and Action Movement).
