International Day of the Girl Child at BOSCO Bengaluru

Bangalore Oniyavara Seva Coota (BOSCO), an NGO working for the less-privileged children and youth, celebrated the International Day of the Girl Child on 11 October 2019. Inaugurating the rally at Idgah ground, Chamarajapet, Ms. Shruti, PSI (Police Sub-Inspector) Chamarajapet, said that she is proud to be a girl and exhorted the children to grow up as good citizens. The children from BOSCO Rainbow Home performed a street play and conscientised the community about the need to protect and educate  girl children.

The awareness rally commenced from Idgah ground, Chamarajapet, accompanied by the children’s band and concluded at BOSCO Vatsalya Bhavan, Chamarajapet. The children of BOSCO Rainbow Home, Vatsalya Bhavan and Nivas created awareness on the theme, ‘Empower Girls for a Brighter Tomorrow.’

During the closing ceremony held at BOSCO Vatsalya Bhavan, Ms. Asha PSI, Kempegowda Nagara, said that the issues of poverty, gender discrimination, lack of education of the girl child and child marriage are the evils still prevalent in our society that need to be addressed. Ms. Asha continued to say that through education, sensitisation and awareness creation every girl child can dream of a better tomorrow. Addressing the gathering Dr. Harisha MBBS, MD, Leelavathi Hospital, Chamarajapet said that the campaigns should be widely managed to spread awareness among people. Dr. Harisha was of the opinion that everyone can reach greater heights in life by making proper choices and utilising every opportunity to the maximum. Ms. Pavithra, Program Manager and Ms. Zaheera, Managing Partner, Winlexis, Bengaluru, and Fr. Mathew Thomas, Executive Director, BOSCO, Bengaluru spoke on the occasion. Over three hundred children from different child care institutions participated in the programme.
