400 Children of the SSG Education Centres Celebrate

The Social Service Guild (SSG) of Kristu Jyoti College and BREADS organised a Patriotic Dance and Song Festival on 17 August 2025 for nearly 400 children from their nine supplementary education centres in the KR Puram region of Bangalore city. The vibrant celebration gave children from urban slum communities around the college, an opportunity to showcase their talents while fostering confidence, creativity and national pride.

The event, marking India’s 79th year of Independence, was inaugurated by Fr. Pallipuram Varghese SDB, Rector of BOSCO, who reminded the children that true patriotism begins with being good human beings. Other guests of honour also inspired and encouraged the young participants.

The stage, with a striking backdrop depicting India’s cultural richness, provided the perfect setting for the colourful performances. Each team presented songs and dances that echoed patriotism and the beauty of Indian culture. Every performance drew enthusiastic applause, as the audience experienced not just a competition but a celebration of talent, culture and community spirit. While the day concluded with medals and recognition for the winners, the true success of the programme lay in the smiles, confidence and sense of belonging it nurtured among the children.

The programme was made possible by the dedicated efforts of the Kristu Jyoti College (KJC) theology students, SSG staff, volunteers and novices, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make the day memorable. The Lake Montfort School kindly provided transport facilities for the children.

Through this initiative, BREADS, SSG and KJC, reaffirmed their commitment to creating platforms that empower children, and encourage creativity and values of unity and patriotism.
